Add a warm and soft feel to any occasion for that special little someone with this easy to make knitted pattern fondant layover. Made out of 50/50 fondant and sugar paste mix using an extracting tool and parchment paper you will have the cutest addition to any birthday girl or boy’s cake. Or create a cherished memory by adding to a christening cake for your baby’s special day.
You will need: 50/50 fondant and sugar paste mix, extracting tool, parchment paper, water, vegetable shortening, small and large brush and knife/exacto knife or razor blade
1. Extract 4 pieces of paste, attach the ends and start twisting them them in opposite ways. Brush a tiny bit of water in the joints so they don't come apart and twist a little tighter...but not too tight!
2. On a parchment paper matching the height of your cake tier, spread vegetable shortening all over and start laying your twisted strings next to each other in opposite ways to create your knitted pattern. Cut the bottom edge to line up with your parchment paper. The top side is the side you want to be the top side on the cake therefore we need to use another piece of a parchment paper of the same size, also brushed with vegetable shortening, that will go on top of the top side. Attach your parchment paper gently.
